Our Hygiene Promise: How We Keep Every Visit Safe

How we keep every appointment clean and safe, from sterilised tools and gentle prep to professional removal, plus simple ways you can help.

Hygiene is the part of a nail appointment you should never have to think about, but it is completely reasonable to want to know how it is handled. You are trusting a salon with your skin, your cuticles and your nails, and good hygiene is what makes that trust well placed. Here is exactly how we keep every visit at Shiny Nails Croydon clean and safe, what you can expect to see, and the small things you can do to help.

Licensed by Croydon Council

Nail treatments in Croydon fall under special treatment licensing, and we are licensed by Croydon Council. Licensing exists to protect clients, and it means our premises and practices are expected to meet clear standards on cleanliness and safe working. For us, the licence is the baseline. Our own promise goes further: clean, sterilised tools for every client, transparent prices before we start, and if something is not right, we will put it right.

What happens before you sit down

Hygiene starts before you arrive at the desk. Between every client, the workstation is reset:

  • Tools are cleaned and sterilised between clients. Metal implements such as cuticle pushers and nippers are cleaned of debris first, then sterilised, so they are ready for the next person and never shared from one client to the next without that process.
  • The station is cleared and wiped down, so dust and filings from the previous appointment are gone before you sit down.
  • Hands and feet treatments get the same care. Whether you are in for a gel manicure or a spa pedicure, the standard does not change.

Feel free to ask your technician about any of this. We are always happy to explain how we work.

During your treatment

Gentle prep

Healthy skin is your first line of defence against infection, so our approach to prep is gentle. Cuticles are pushed back and tidied with care rather than cut aggressively, and the nail surface is prepared without over-filing. Over-thinned nails and broken skin are exactly what we want to avoid.

A quick check first

At the start of each appointment, your technician will look at your nails and the skin around them. If we notice something that concerns us, such as broken or inflamed skin, swelling, an unusual change in colour or texture, or signs that might suggest an infection, we will not simply carry on. We will explain what we have seen and may suggest postponing until you have been checked by a pharmacist or GP. For foot concerns like painful corns or ingrowing toenails, a podiatrist is the right professional. It is not about turning you away; it is about not making a problem worse.

Professional removal

We never peel or prise product off. Peeling can strip away layers of natural nail and leave it weak and vulnerable. Removal is always done professionally, which is better for your nails and part of the same healthy-nail thinking that runs through everything we do.

What you can do to help

Hygiene works best as a partnership. A few small things on your side make a real difference:

  1. Tell us about sensitivities. If you have ever reacted to a nail product, or have a skin condition on your hands or feet, mention it when you arrive so we can talk it through.
  2. Reschedule if something is not right. If you have a cut, infection or rash in the area, it is kinder to your skin to move your appointment. Online cancellation is free up to two hours before.
  3. Avoid shaving your legs just before a pedicure. Freshly shaved skin can have tiny nicks you cannot see.
  4. Look after your nails afterwards. Daily cuticle oil and gloves for cleaning help keep skin intact between visits. Our nail aftercare tips cover this in more detail.

When to speak to a professional

We can keep tools and stations clean, but we are not medical professionals. If after any nail treatment, with us or elsewhere, you notice redness that spreads, swelling, heat, pus, persistent pain, itching or a rash around the nails, see a pharmacist or your GP. The same goes for changes in the nail itself, such as lifting from the nail bed, a green or dark patch, or thickening. If you think you may be reacting to a product, let us know as well, so we can note it for future visits.

Questions are always welcome

A good salon should be happy to answer questions about its hygiene, and we are. If you would like to know more about what to look for wherever you go, our guide to salon hygiene and what to look for is a helpful read. You can also browse our FAQ, or contact us at 4 Norfolk House, Wellesley Road, Croydon CR0 1LH, or on 07446 934345. We are open Monday to Saturday 10am to 7pm and Sunday 11am to 5pm, and we look forward to looking after you.
